Cayman Islands Museum

Perhaps Mr. Ira Thompson had little idea that his hobby of collecting Caymanian artifacts during the 1930s was a stepping stone for the Cayman Islands National Museum. In 1979, the governmet purchased his collections for display in the museum. Today, this is one of the best places to learn about the rich Caymanian heritage and history.

Browse through over 4000 artifacts ranging from coins to a 14 foot catboat, and natural history specimens to rare documents at the Cayman Islands National Museum. The museum is also a venue for special activities and events to enhance a visitor's understanding of Caymanian history.

The Museum have been divided into two sections- Natural History and Cultural History. One of the most outstanding exhbits at the Natural History section is the three dimensional map depicting a panorama of the undersea mountains and canyons surrounding the Cayman Islands. In the Cultural History, you'll take on an engaging trip in time.

After you've seen everything, don't forget to stop by the shop at the end of the museum. Here, you'll shop for gifts and exquisite Caymanite jewelery. Besides, there's a Cool Caboose where you can savor delicious tropical drinks, ice cream and snacks.

The museum remains open on six days a week from Monday through Friday (9am - 5pm) and on Saturday (10am - 2pm).
