Central Europe

Central Europe is the region lying between the areas of Eastern and Western Europe. The term was coinded during the Cold War period, when the Europe was politically divided into the East and West, with the Iron Curtain splitting "Central Europe". Central Europe was the heart of Europe's artistic and cultural development prior to World War II.

Today, the region is renowned for its stunning country capitals. There's a breezy mix of Baroque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture everywhere. The lifestyle of the people, here, is marked by a remarkable passion for fine arts and aesthetics. Vienna, once the center of the mighty Hapsburg Empire, is brimming with museums and theaters whose exquisite architecture brings back pictures of the past.

The nightlife around is second to none, with a range of music from rock and pop to salsa and techno. While Budapest is famous for its mid-summer festivals and eclectic spicy cuisine, Prague offers a plenty to savor- jazz clubs, cafes, art galleries and festivals, not to mention the world-famous Czech beer. Can anyone miss the Prague Opera!

Scour the markets and boutiques for unique keepskaes and souvenirs. You won't be disappointed. From Bohemian glass and crystalware in the Czech Republic to Vienna's traditional shopping street of Mariahilferstrasse, there are wonderful experiences lying in wait! Don't miss the many gifts bearing an image associated with Vienna - St Stephen's Cathedral, the Giant Ferris Wheel or the Lipizzaner horses.

What's more, Central Europe offers world class dining options. Viennese restaurants serve you a rich melange of traditional and multinational cuisine. With Hungarian, Bohemian and Austrian dishes like goulash, different kinds of beef and veal and sweet desserts, there's so much for the taste buds!
