Chichen Itza, Cancun

A short drive away from the stunning beaches, hotel zones and the sizzling nightlife of Cancun lies one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Chichen Itza has baffled us for hundreds of years. The ruins of this paradigm of Mayan architecture lie midway between Cancun and Merida. It's a 2 to 3 hours drive from either of the cities that takes you to the most spectacular remnants of the Mayan world, and the journey itself is worth every minute!

Chichen Itza gets crowded easily. So, if you want to avoid the tourist hordes, be sure to arrive as early as possible. The place opens at 8 am every morning. Besides, the temperature inside the complex is comparatively hotter and you'll want to carry plenty of water with you. Also, don't forget to pay heed to the warning signs.

Check out El Castillo! However, it's not the only interesting feature to be found here. Inside the pyramid, you'll find the Jaguar Throne and the famous Chac Mool sculpture. The Mayan Ballpark, the Cenote of sacrifice and the Temple of the Warriors are all interesting sights, which are not to missed.

Take a stroll through the Mayan village, which is located outside the Chichen Itza complex. It's ideal for cheap eats and you won't forget the taste of an authentic Yucatan meal! If you want to pick up souvenirs and keepsakes, you can trust the young street sellers. They sell authentic handicrafts crafted by their own mothers and fathers.
