Guatemala Locations......

Guatemala is the Mayan heartland, representing Central America in its concentrated form- its volcanoes are the highest and most active, and its Mayan ruins the most impressive! Explore its pine forested highlands and see the Mayan communities dressesd in colorful traditional weavings. Foodies will find excellent dining options in most cities, while sundowners will be greetd with a decent nightlife.

Guatemala is home to over 20 ethnic groups, speaking some 23 languages. After its independence from Spain, the country enjoyed comparative stability, but eventually slipped into a savage civil war between right-wing military governments and leftist guerrilla movements.

Despite its history of conflicts, visitors to Guatemala are greeted by sincere friendliness. Guatemala City, the country capital, is a mass of intertwined streets and alleyways, retaining little of its colonial charm. The indigenous culture is at its best in the ruins of Tikal.

Lose yourself to the rich tapestry of nature. With breathtaking volcanic peaks, subtropical forests and sulphurous lakes to its colorful orchids, exotic creatures and beautiful birds, Guatemala is a bizarre spectacle for the nature lover.
