Madagascar Locations......

Situated off the east coast of Africa, Madagascar is a mysterious island with some unusual features. It is the fourth largest Island in the world measuring a whopping 1571 km in length and 571 km across at its widest point. Due the vast amount of crystalline rocks found here, it is often descried as a plateau. Madagascar was separated from the African and Indian mainland since 165 million years ago. After its seclusion many indigenous species have evolved including thousands of species of the butterflies. Of all the mammals found here lemurs have received more attention from the conservation community. Surrounded by golden beaches the interior is distinctly varied consisting of grassy plateaus, volcanoes, forests and natural reserves.

The country is divided geographically and climatically by the Hauts Plateaux. The coastal strip in the east of high mountains consists of dense forests, while Savannah is more prominent in the west. The Northwestern part of this vivacious country has numerous bays, sandy beaches and the coral islets like Iranja, Mitsio, Nosy Komba, and Nosy Be. The islands are a lost paradise mostly visited by the fisherman. In June they are a breeding ground for the humpback whales which come here to give birth. Each region in the country has distinct variety of plants and animals. One of the poorest nations on the world, Madagascar boasts of the incredibly rich wildlife, found nowhere on the earth!
