Fort Christian

Fort Christian is one of the oldest standing structures in the Virgin Islands. If you're in USVI, this bright red fort turned museum is something which is not to be missed. There are historical photos and documents, period furniture, a cane press and so much more that will take you on a trip through the interesting history of St. Thomas. What's more, the panoramic views of the breathtaking harbor is a feast for the eyes.

Fort Christian was built by the Danish people to as a defensive against their colonial rivals. Construction of this National Historic Landmark began in 1666 and ended in 1680. In the 1700's, the fort was expanded and in 1874 a new entrance with was added. Improvements in artillery would render the fort obsolete and it would later be used as a police station, court and jail . It has once been used as Government House, a community center and a church.

Entrance fees for the museum is $3 for adults and children visit free.
