Gastown, Vancouver

The historic town was established in the same year when Canada became a nation. Gastown is a refreshing mix of the old and the new. Stroll the cobblestone streets and glance through the majestic Victorian buildings. The main tourist attractions in Gastown are the unique steam clock and the statue of 'Gassy Jack' Deighton. This Steam Clock was the world's first steam clock and was originally built to cover a steam vent.

Gastown is close to Vancouver's downtown business core and hotels. The Europe Hotel, built by an Italian businessman, is more popular as the first fireproof building in western Canada than as a top notch hotel!

Explore the west of Gastown for the spectacular Canada Place. You can access it by a five minute walk either from the Cruise Ship Terminal or the Trade & Convention Center. To the east where Gastown and Chinatown meet is the Sun Yat Sen Gardens and towards the south are BC Place, GM Place and International Village, all worth a visit for the first timers in town.
