Holmenkollen Ski Museum

Holmenkollen Ski Museum is one of the most visited attraction in Norway. This unique museum provides visitors with all they could possibly need to know about the history of skiing. The museum highlights 4000 years of skiing history with rock carvings from the time of the Vikings, and skis from all various parts of Norway that show local handicraft skills and traditions. Along with this, you will see modern racing- and XC skis, as well as another exhibition that includes a series of panels on the links between the Norwegian Royal family and the history of skiing, and panels describing various important events, such as the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo and the 1994 event in Lillehammer.

The museum was founded in 1923 by Skiforeningen, the ski association, and today it is a part of the Holmenkollen Tourist and Cultural center. The surrounding area has a ski jump tower, a ski simulator, along with hiking trails. At the ski jump tower, visitors can experience the magnificent views of Oslo. There is also gift and sovernir shops, a cafe that has a pleasant public area with outdoor service.
