Iguazu Falls

Immerse yourself into the magnetic pull of the torrents of water rushing down the Iguassu Falls! Iguazu is one of the largest and most impressive falls in the world, deriving its name from the Guarnani Indian word meaning "great water." No wonder, millions of visitors come here every year to gaze at the falls, which is 60 feet higher than Niagara and about one and half times as wide.

Nestled in the Iguazu National Park, although seventy percent of the falls lie within Argentina, much can be seen while you're still in Brazil. See the clouds of spray continually emerging from Iguassu against the backdrop of lush tropical growth. It's from the Brazilian side that you'll enjoy the most panoramic views.

Iguazu Falls are divided into separate waterfalls. One of the best known is the Devil's Throat or Gargantua del Diablo, with its perpetual spray high over the falls. For a better experience, it's advisable to plan at least a two-day drip. Take a helicopter ride from Foz do Iguaçu or choose a boat ride. Spring and fall are the best times to visit the Iguazu Falls. Summer is intensely hot and humid, and in winters the water level remains considerably low.
