Kakum National Park

Kakum National Park is one of the most popular places for wildlife enthusiasts. Located in West African country of Ghana, Kakum has the only canopy walkway which is suspended 100 feet above the ground. The park offers stunning natural views of the lush rainforests. A cool rope bridge hangs above the forest which makes your jungle walk more exciting. Among other species, the park is a habitat for more than 300 kinds of birds and about 550 types. Many of the canopy's inhabitants have never set foot on the forest floor. It is recommended to arrive at dawn to be one of the first on the bridge that day. Avoid visiting on weekends when the park is buzzing with tourists.

Covering an area of 140 square miles, the park provides one of the last remaining habitats for six globally-endangered species, including: Diana monkeys, bongos, yellow-backed duikers, and forest elephants. Exploring the park with a local guide will enhance your experience. These guides give you details about the park species. Camping inside the park can prove to be a thrilling experience. If you are lucky, you can get a rare view of the nocturnal wildlife, like slithering pythons, dozing antelope and fire ants.
