Lincoln Memorial, Washington DC

The Lincoln Memorial is a monument honoring the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. This awe-inspiring memorial, designed by Henry Bacon, after ancient Greek temples, soars almost 100 feet into space, 190 feet in length and 119 feet wide. The building is believed to be the most beautiful building after the White House and the Capitol.

The Memorial is located at the west end of the National Mall. Climb up the stairs in front of the temple for fascinating views of the Washington Monument and the US Capitol. Inside the temple, you'll see a large sculpture of Abraham Lincoln seated on a chair, which is 19 feet high and weighs almost 175 tons. Lincoln's second inaugural speech is inscribed on the northern wall, while the southern wall has the Gettysburg address inscribed on it.

The Memorial is visited by millions of visitors each year and is the site of many large public gatherings and protests. The Lincoln Memorial is administered by the National Park Service and remains open from 8am to 11:45 pm everyday except on Christmas.
