Mount Hood, Oregon

Mount Hood is Oregon's tallest mountain and the closest Cascade peak to Portland. It's an incredible stratovolcano made of lava flows, domes, and volcanic deposits. This is one of the finest natural recreational areas in the US, featuring hiking trails, lakes and rivers, and year-round skiing.

Mount Hood is also one of the major volcanoes of the Cascade Range, having erupted repeatedly for hundreds of thousands of years, most recently during two episodes in the past 1,500 years.

With over sixty miles of forested mountains, 77 breathtaking waterfalls and myriad lakes and streams, Mt. Hood is a mecca for adventurers. The region offers unlimted opportunities for the outdoorsy traveler. There are four ski areas, including, a classic WPA-era mountain lodge, and the historic Timberline lodge.
