Northeast Asia

As the name implies, Northeast Asia comprises of countries in the geographic northeast region of Asia. These countries include North Korea, South Korea, the People's Republic of China and Japan. Sometimes, eastern Siberia and Taiwan are also referred to as a part of Northeast Asia.

Since ancient times, China has been the most influential country of this region. No wonder, shared Chinese-derived language as well as shared religion, especially Buddhism, are the striking aspects of life in this region. You'll also observe a shared social and moral philosophy, which is mainly derived from Confucianism.

China and Japan are undeniably the most dominating countries in this region. While the former is an influential world power, the latter is an economic superpower. Both these countries offer unique and interesting sights and experiences for visitors. However, travelling to Japan can be a tad expensive than any other Northeast Asian country.

What do tourists expect to see in Norrtheast China? The Great Wall, of course! But there are other fascinating sights to see, cultures and traditions to experience and cuisine to savor. Feast on noodles in China and savor unique Japanese cuisine made from raw fish and vegetables are as well as soy and soy products. If you're in Japan, be sure to eat out in the Chitsu region. South Korean restaurants serve a variety of buffets including Indian, Japanese, Mexican, Italian and British. In Taipei, you'll find the best Chinese food in the world.

China is a fantastic place to shop for electronics. Beijing is swarming with shopping streets and departmental stores. Other special purchases include art and crafts, paintings, antiques and silk. Don't miss the nightlife! There are plenty of bars, pubs and night clubs throughout Beijing and Shanghai. Tokyo has numerous expensive but amazing bars. There are good cafes and bars in Taiwan, too. But there's nothing like a night out in the local markets, where you can eat from the streetside eateries or just enjoy a stroll.
