Olumo Rock

One of the most enigmatic rock formations, Olumo Rock is amongst the most popular destination in West Africa. This historical landmark represents the embodiment of cultural and historical values of the Egba people of its native state. In the past, this rock served as an adobe of protection from the enemies. Abeokuta, where the rock is located derives its name; meaning "under the rock”. This place is located a few hours away from the bustling metropolitan city of Lagos, providing convenient access to an array of hotels, restaurants, clubs, casinos and various other nightlife activities.

To reach the top of Olumo rock, one has to climb the man-made stairs carved into the rock. But, this is not as easy as you think. Relax! take a break to rest on the benches under the trees growing from the rock. As you resume your journey, climbing on irregularly sized rocks, you will come across a narrow corridor that leads to the top of the rock. All along the way, you will see carvings in the rock and cowrie-studded statues. Just outside the rock is the ancient Itoku market, where you can buy original tie-dye (locally known as 'Adire') products from their crafters.
