Quttinirpaaq (Ellesmere ) National Park, Nunavut

Ellesmere Park is the most northerly park on earth where visitors can feast on the spectacular mountain scenery, huge glaciers, deeply incised fjords, and ice shelves extending far into the sea. Trips, here, usually entail camping and extensive hiking.

Lake Hazen, the largest lake in the Arctic Circle, offers a unique opportunity to observe the wildlife and vegetation in the fragile environment of this polar oasis. The place was first inhabited some 4,000 years ago by a group of Palaeo-Eskimos who perhaps arrived from Siberia much earlier.

While Ellesmere Island is an important archaeological site giving interesting evidences on the first humans in the region, the Quttinirpaaq National Park is popular for its numerous wilderness experiences. The Lake Hazen and Tanquary Fjord regions provide spectacular routes for hiking and backcountry camping during the short summer season. Ward Hunt Island, along the northern coast, is the starting point for North Pole expeditions that take places during March or April.
