Town of St. George (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

St. George is remarkably appreciated for its architecture. It's one of the oldest and continuously inhabited town of English origin in the New World. Strolling through the alleys will give you a better understanding of Bermuda as something beyond the land of sun, sea and sand.

Originally named New London, St. George and its fortifications have been designated World Heritage Site by UNESCO in November 2000. Discover its interesting history of settlement and listen to the tales centering the passengers of the Jamestown-bound ship who made a permanent landfall in Bermuda instead of heading to their intended destination in Virginia.

History is written on every well-preserved house, public building and military fortifications that dominat St. George's skyline, with some dating from 400 years. Today, every effort has been made to restore the colonial charm of this town. So, power and telephone lines are laid underground and the street lights have a period style. It's worth taking a stroll down the narrow streets such as Barber's Alley and Aunt Peggy's Lane, which stand as they were centuries ago!
