Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is one of the Australia's most renowned architectural landmarks, designed by a Danish architect, Jorn Utzon. This fascinating building is heart of the city's cultural scene. Besides being a stop for the touring theater, ballet and musical productions, the Opera House is home to the Sydney Theater company, Opera Australia and the Sydney Symphony. It took 14 years to build and was officially opened on the 20th of October 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II.

Initially the Opera House opened with a concert hall, an opera theater, a drama theater and a recital hall, as well as restaurants and bars. A fifth theater was added within the structure much later in 1998. The Opera House comprises three groups of interlocking vaulted ‘shells’ that roof the two main performance halls. These shell-structures rest upon a vast platform and are surrounded by terrace areas. The Opera house is the most wonderful attraction visited by huge number of tourists from around the world. It was designated as a worl Heritage Site in 2007.

The skyline of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the blue water of the harbor and the Sydney Opera House, viewed from a ferry or from the air, is dramatic and unforgettable. Getting to the Opera House is quite easy, you can easily catch buses, trains and ferries to Circular Quay, which is at five to seven minute walk from the Opera House.
