Waitomo Glowworm Caves

Topping the visitors itinerary, the Waitomo Glowworm Caves are one of the most unique underground cave system around the world. These cave are famous for hundreds and thousands of glow worms who live in them. These worms create a astonishing sight, that may be described as a sky full of bright blue stars. This cave also has an underground river that enables its visitors to take a boat to view these glittering worms.

As you enter this mysterious underground world, you will marvel at the wonderful natural formations created by Mother Nature. Stalactites, stalagmites and sculptures have been formed inside as a result of water dripping from the roof of the cave or flowing over the exposed limestone walls. As the water flows down through the earth towards the cave roof and walls, it dissolves limestone in its path. This limestone is then left as a crystalline deposit within the cave. These spectacular formations have developed over thousands of years and are so delicate that they can be severely damaged simply by the touch of a human hand. Guided tours will take you through these interesting caves as well as deliver an informative commentary on the historical past of these caves.
